Mentor Award

The Mentor Award recognizes a member who has offered guidance, encouraging council, support, or other help that has had a direct and  positive benefit on another member's writing or publishing success.  Qualifying mentor experiences are limited to those occurring within the past three contest periods (approximately the last three years). The recipient must exemplify the highest ideals of the OWFI vision, that is, to promote communal support, networking, and mutual respect between members.

Members can nominate individuals for the Mentor Award by filling out the application form, which can be downloaded online by clicking the link provided. The nomination must include the form with a one-page summary of the experience precipitating the award nomination. The statement must specify the direct, positive results of the relationship between the mentor and mentee that resulted in the mentee nominating this individual for the Mentor Award.

For more information about the award, carefully read the application and complete it in full. (Hint: We are writers, and award recipients are almost always those whose form was completed by someone who did an excellent job of writing up just what the mentor did that makes him or her worthy of this award.)

Entries should be submitted in triplicate and must be postmarked by March 15th of the contest year.

Mail the completed form to the OWFI president, who is the Mentor Award Chairperson, and who chooses the committee and participates in the selection of the award recipient. For the president's contact information, access the Home > Officers Webpage. (Note: You will have to email the president for a mailing address if you want to send it that way. Otherwise, email the form and your write up to this year's OWFI President.)
