OWFI is a federation of affiliated writers’ groups. Each of OWFI’s affiliate groups plays a crucial role in the continued operation of OWFI as an organization. In order to encourage affiliate group participation in OWFI as a whole, OWFI would like to offer its affiliate groups rewards for participating in its quarterly and annual events. Moreover, OWFI would like to encourage affiliate groups to post to the OWFI website, ensuring that new writers have access to the most up-to-date information about OWFI and its many affiliate groups.

Beginning on October 14, 2018, OWFI will unveil its new Affiliate Rewards Program (ARP). Any points earned by an affiliate club between October 1 and October 13, 2018, will be added to the affiliate group’s total. This year’s ARP ends on April 30, 2019. Next year’s ARP begins on May 1, 2019, at which point all affiliate groups’ point totals shall be reduced to zero.

The Affiliate Rewards Program

The Affiliate Rewards Program (ARP) runs from May 1 to April 30. In order to participate in the ARP, an affiliate group must be in good standing. This means that the affiliate group has 5 current members who are also current members of OWFI. Failure to meet this expectation could result in your affiliate group becoming inactive (see Compliance below).

Every affiliate club is expected to participate in OWFI activities. This rewards program is intended to encourage and reward participation in OWFI by its affiliate groups. Affiliate groups may earn up to 100 points per year.

Members at Large are invited to participate as well. For the purposes of the ARP, Members at Large shall count as members of one, very large affiliate group led by its delegates.

On May 1, points for the previous year will be tallied. The affiliate group with the most points shall be declared the Most Active Affiliate of the Year. Ties will be permitted.

Years in Compliance

Points reset every year on May 1. Instead of accumulating points from year to year, affiliate groups will accumulate Years in Compliance. Affiliate groups will receive rewards after 5, 10, and 25 years of compliance. After 25 years, an affiliate will become a Historic Affiliate, which will be forever remembered in the annals of OWFI, even if the affiliate group breaks up in the future.

Years in Compliance do not indicate the number of points that a group has earned over the years. Instead, it indicates the number of years that an affiliate group has been compliant with OWFI’s bylaws. An affiliate group may remain active and “compliant” with the OWFI bylaws so long as it maintains 5 current members who are also current members of OWFI. All active affiliates will accumulate Years in Compliance for every year that they remain an active affiliate in OWFI, regardless of the number of points they received in the previous year.

Affiliate Deactivation

Failure by an affiliate group to have 5 current OWFI members for a period of 6 months or more will result in that affiliate group being deactivated within OWFI. This means that all members of that affiliate group will become Members at Large, and the affiliate group will no longer appear on our website and on our publications. (Unless it is a Historic Affiliate. See Years in Compliance above.) This policy is pursuant to Article III of the OWFI bylaws:

Affiliate members of OWFI shall consist of those local writing groups in Oklahoma and elsewhere which seek membership in OWFI and have at least five (5) members who are also individual members in good standing of OWFI (current in payment of annual dues). Any group may apply for affiliate membership if it consists of and maintains at least five OWFI members in good standing. Each affiliated member group of the Federation shall retain its own entity and be governed by its own constitution, bylaws or rules.

If the affiliate group reactivates its status within OWFI at any point in the future, it must start the ARP again with zero points and zero Years in Compliance.
