Conference Committees


  • Shepherds assist and introduce our conference speakers.
  • Time commitment: Must attend the speaker's sessions at the conference and may have other duties as needed.

Agent/Editor Pitch Room

  • Help with signups and timekeeping during the agent/editor pitch sessions.
  • Time commitment: Two-hour shifts during the conference.

Registration Desk

  • Greet conference attendees, hand out registration packets, and take payment.
  • Time commitment: Two-hour shifts during the conference.

Silent Auction

  • Keep an eye on our Silent Auction area and help people place bids.
  • Time commitment: One-hour shifts, Friday and Saturday morning.
  • We welcome donations of gift baskets. All funds raised from the Silent Auction go towards conference scholarships.


  • Arrange centerpieces for display during the conference and move them to the tables before the Friday and Saturday night banquets.
  • Time commitment: Approximately 30 minutes before and after the banquets.
  • You can also help by creating and donating a centerpiece! All centerpieces will be raffled off after the Saturday banquet, with the money going towards next year's conference expenses.


  • Buzz Sessions are informal talks held after the Friday night banquet. If you have a writing-related area of expertise to discuss, sign up to present a session .We also need people to host and coordinate the sessions.
  • Time Commitment: 1-2 hours after the Friday night banquet.

More Ways to Get Involved


OWFI offers a limited number of conference scholarships. Apply by March 1 for two-day and one-day scholarships.

Contest Sponsorships

Support our contest by sponsoring a category. A donation of $105 covers all of the cash awards for a category. A half-category sponsorship is $52.50. Donations of any amount are needed and welcome!

Banquet Table Reservations

The banquets can get crowded. Reserve a table to ensure your group can all sit together. Costs are $20 per night for each table. Tables seat eight.


If you're a published author attending the conference, you may sell your books in our on-site bookstore. Best of Books independent bookstore will staff the book room and will collect a commission on each book sold.

Book Signings

All published authors registered for the conference are invited to take part in a book signing party. There is no charge to participate.

Famous Author Banquet

At the Friday night banquet we will recognize all OWFI members who have published books during 2016. No charge, but you must sign up in advance to be included.

Costume Contest

Back by popular demand, our costume contest will take place at the Friday night banquet.
