Holiday Traditions

Hello, OWFI!

Can you believe the holidays are already upon us? Traditions are important to me, and the holidays are a time to reflect on current traditions and add new ones. It’s also a good time to look forward to the new year just around the bend. Soon, I’ll begin setting writing goals for 2019. I’m a big believer in goal setting. I’ll set a large, overarching goal for the year and then break it down into smaller, more realistic goals to meet each month.

One of my favorite writing-related traditions is to participate in National Novel Writing Month each November. While I’ve completed the challenge only once, I’ve participated for many years and found that it’s a great motivator to finish current projects while honing my writing skills. Are you participating this year?

Another annual tradition is to prepare for the OWFI writing contest. The contest will open on December 1 this year. Are you ready? Those entering the contest must be paid OWFI members or full-time students. Students may join OWFI at no cost and then enter the contest by paying the regular entry fee. For more information, visit the OWFI 2019 Writing Contest page.

Did you know that about 40 percent of online shoppers start on Amazon? With Christmas quickly approaching, it’s a good time to remind your friends and family that they can help you support OWFI with their Amazon purchases. Just go to smile.amazon.com and choose the Oklahoma Writers’ Federation, Inc. as the organization you wish to support. OWFI will receive up to 0.5% of the total purchase price from Amazon.

Remember to sign up for the next OWFI Virtual Workshop, which will be held at 7:00 p.m., November 29, 2018, on the Slack chat platform. Darcy Pattison will teach us about Building Strong Characters. Members can attend for the low price of $5, while non-members can participate for just $10. Sign up today on our Virtual Workshops page!

Happy Holidays, OWFI!
